Village of Whitesboro, New York… I really hadn’t heard anything about this place until a few weeks 
Let me back up a little bit before I go on about why I acted in such a manner about this “seal.” First of all, a government “seal” is used to represent… to symbolize that particular government…that particular locale in some way…shape or form. It is usually found on the letterhead, a flag, police cars, etc…for that locale. For instance, the seal for the United States government is this:

by Charles Thomson (June 20, 1782)
“The shield (escutcheon) is composed of thirteen stripes that represent the several states joined into one solid compact, supporting the chief (top section of the shield) which unites the whole and represents Congress. The stripes are kept closely united by the chief and the chief depends upon that union and the strength resulting from it.”

Now, back to the Whitesboro Village seal. The seal dates back to 1784, when a man named Hugh White moved to Sedauquate (now called Whitesboro). Sedauquate was home to the Oneida Indians. (In other words…again…they were there first) They say in the Village seal picture that the White man’s hands is on the Indian’s shoulders. However, the original seal picture was showing the White man having his hands around the throat of the Indian. They changed that seal picture, to the one shown above, a while ago. O.k.
Now…take a minute or so…to take it all in. O.k. Now…what the hell does this look like to you? Cause for me…this is what I see: I still see a white man choking an Indian. And, it looks like the White man is getting the better of the Indian. For me, the message that this conveys ( as the Village seal) is this…“White Man has the upper hand & you Indians better stay in your place or this is what will happen to you. We will kill your asses.” I’m sorry, but, it speaks something along those lines to me. Plain & Simple.
A few weeks ago, a vote was taken in the Village about whether or not to keep the seal because so much negative attention had come towards the Village. Here’s the vote: the Whitesboro residents cast 157 of 212 votes in favor of letting the image represent the Oneida County village, which has a population of roughly 3,700. This vote caused even more outrage…especially, on social media. “In speaking with a lot of the residents that voted to keep the seal, I think they were surprised at the negative attention that Whitesboro was receiving as a result of the vote,” Mayor Patrick O’Connor said in a statement.
Do you see what I am saying people??? THEY WERE SURPRISED!!! Why? Because it can be extremely difficult for people, who don’t experience racism (because they are White in America) to understand…to empathize…to see… what people of color are really going through in this racist ass country. While legalized slavery may have ended in the late 1800’s…that doesn’t have a damn thing to do with what lies in the hearts of oh…so…many hearts. Way…Way…Way too many hearts. What is the “what” that lies in the hearts? I’ll tell you. RACISM…HATRED…ANGER…EVIL. You see “Truth” is the light because God himself is the “Truth” and nothing but the “Truth.” This is why He has demanded that I speak the “Truth” to you even when it can be a hard pill to swallow. But you know what though? I have found that the hardest lessons I have learned…are the ones that have been instilled in my spirit…so I don’t forget them. And…that’s a good thing. Anyway.
It is my understanding that yesterday, Friday, January 22, 2016, the Village said that it would work with the Oneida Indian Nation to discuss the creation of a new emblem. FINALLY! It appears that all of this public scrutiny has shamed these people ( to some degree) into changing the seal. Now…that’s a start on a more positive…less racist road of recovery. Why do I say this? Because if the Oneida Indian Nation is involved…their perspective…their point of view will hopefully be taken into account. And…I don’t need to tell you that Native Americans might…just might…have a little knowledge about what it’s like to be mistreated…stepped upon…pushed aside…basically forgotten about…& robbed in broad daylight, in this country. Don’t you think??? I thought you would agree.
So, now what? Let’s us pray for the people who still don’t understand why the Whitesboro seal needed to change. Let’s pray to God that He touches their hearts with his Holy Spirit and that they turn from the wickedness of their ways. Pray to God that the light of God shines into the darkened areas of their hearts so that it is revealed to them how racist that seal really is. How racist it is … &… how wrong it is! And, pray all of these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
