Now…after they have quoted those scriptures to me, I might ask this question, “What type of relationship do you have with God?” A typical response might be, “What do you mean?” I say, “I mean…do you talk to him on a daily basis or…do you just come to him when you want something?” Oh boy…that normally gets me a few “raised eye brows.” I see those “eyebrows” as I signal to keep going. I then may say, “Did you not understand what I asked you? Do you talk to him daily…or…do you just come to him when you want something? This is not rocket science that I’m asking you about…it’s a simple question.” Well…the hesitancy & perplexed look that I get…is usually an indicator…that they probably only come to God when they want something. Now…don’t misunderstand…my questions are not judgmental…no..no…no. I’m truly trying to find out from them…where they think their relationship is with God.
Well…let’s say they fi-na-lly respond… “I don’t talk to him on a daily basis. I talk to him once in a while.” Alright…now, we’re getting somewhere. Think of it… like a radio that’s about 100 yards from you…&, it’s playing music. The farther the radio is from you…the harder it’s going to be for you hear it. Right? The same principle applies when we are dealing with the Heavenly Father. The farther you are from him…the harder it is for him to hear you. In order for the Father to be inclined to hear you, let alone… answer you, you must be in some kind of relationship with him. That’s the way He has set it up. The bible says in James 4:8, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” You see…God longs for us to come to him all the time. Yes!!! Believe me…I’m telling you the truth. And, guess what??? He doesn’t ever get tired of hearing from us. How do I know? I know because I worry him…day in & day out. Who don’t??? YES…I…DO. And…over the years…My God…My God…listen to me…people. God hears me when I talk to him. And, not only does He hear me…He answers my prayers. Check this out. It’s gotten to such a point, in our relationship… that, many times… I don’t even have to ask him for what I want, either…out loud or in my head. You might now be thinking…”Well, Iris, if you haven’t asked him out loud or in your head…How does he know what you want? Let me tell you. God knows because He reads my heart. HOW CRAZY IS THIS!!! Crazy…but, true &… absolutely AMAZING!!!
Now…listen to me. I didn’t start out having this type of relationship with him. It built up over the years. Oh…PLEEEEAAASE. I use to be just like the multitude of God’s children. Yes, just coming to him…mainly when I wanted something. And…not thinking about him…the majority of the rest of the time. How sad??? Then, there was a turning point for me. Yes, shit was happening so fast in my life ( &… not good things) that I was pushed up against the wall. Meaning? Meaning…He was all I felt I had left to go to. Yes. While…I had very loving & supportive people around me (family & friends), during that time…(of being pushed up against the wall)…they couldn’t help me. They tried & I love them for that. But you see…God used those events in my life…to bring me closer to him. He made it so…that no matter what anybody said…to try & encourage me…it didn’t help me. I didn’t feel any better about the situations. I came to a point where I knew the only hope I had was with God. So, I actually dropped to my knees & cried out to him, “I believe you are real…& I know that you know…what I’m going through. So…will you please help me.” And, guess what? He did. And…He did it in a supernatural way so that no one else could get the credit for what He did for me. PRAISE GOD!!!
So, if you want God to start listening to you & you want him to consider your prayers, you need to build a relationship with him. That’s the only way. Just do it. How? Just start talking to him. Let him know that you believe that He exist. It doesn’t matter if you are at home…at work…in the car. Just start talking to him. He hears us even if we talk to him in our heads. I talk to him in my head…as much as I talk to him out loud. Yes. For example…I might run into somebody that I don’t want to see… & believe me…I ask him for patience. Yes…and I do this praying (in my head) right while I’m standing in front of these people.
Also…start reading the bible. It’s amazing how fast you get to know God by reading his word. And, if you do these things in sincerity…you will build a relationship with him. If your heart is inclined towards him…you will love him more & more. It just happens. You don’t even have to think about it. One day…I realized that I loved God more than I loved anything or anyone in this world. 
Remember…He is God Almighty…He is not a Whore to be used.
