Guess What??? Jeff Smisek, the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of United Airlines, resigned Tuesday, 9/8/15, according to the New York Times. Why? The Feds are investigating those nickel & diming bastards for…oh, what is the word I’m looking for?…oh yeah, I got it…”BRIBERY.” Well, before I go on…let’s see exactly what “BRIBERY” means. You know in assessing any situation we want to be fair…right??? Sure we do. O.k…now, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “Bribery” as, “money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust.” O.k…we’re ready. Now…Let us proceed.
Here’s the run down on this mess. Federal prosecutors are looking into whether there was illegal wheeling & dealing going on between United Airlines & the former Port Authority Chairman for New York & New Jersey, David Samson. I say former because his trifling butt resigned in 2014 (to avoid being fired) because his dirty hands were involved in the New Jersey “Bridgegate” scandal along with Chris Christie’s staff. Remember? Now, David Samson has a weekend home in South Carolina. While he was still the chairman of the Port Authority …United Airlines began an about twice-weekly direct flight from Newark, New Jersey to Columbia, South Carolina.
So…Did the starting of this direct flight, by United, from New Jersey to South Carolina have anything to do with David Samson? Damn right it did. It appears that David Samson went to United Airlines & asked them to put in this direct flight. Yes…he did. Why? So he could easily get to his “weekend home” in South Carolina. And…United Airlines agreed to do this. Now…I don’t know about yall, but… I know if I went to United Airlines & asked them to start a weekly flight for me… somebody is gonna call the police on somebody else. And…You know…that somebody who is doing the calling will be United & the somebody else who is being called on… will be me. Not only will they lock my ass up…they are going to have me evaluated & charge me for the evaluation. You know it’s true. Sooooo…Why did United Airlines agree to do this? Were there a lot of people taking this trip, along with David Samson, on a weekly basis to make it beneficial (you know…money wise) for United Airlines do it? Because seriously, it’s expensive for an airline to fly from one place to another just in terms of the fuel cost alone.
No. No. No. In actuality, it was not cost beneficial at all for United Airlines. They actually loss money on these flights. O.k. then… So, if United actually loss money from the flights…again, why did they keep making them? Now, we’re getting to the nitty gritty. Here’s why they did it. As chairman of the Port Authority, David Samson, operated the New York area airports. His power allowed him to vote on and make decisions about what projects the airports would engage in. He also had the power to influence & govern where “our public money” went in terms of what “projects” got funded with public funds. O.k… now enters United… center stage. You see…United is a predominant airline carrier at the Newark Liberty International Airport, which the Port Authority owns. Jeff Smisek wanted public funding for several projects, including an estimated $600 million extension of the PATH train from downtown Newark to the airport. He was negotiating with the Port Authority to get this funding during the same time United was providing these direct flights for David Samson. Coincidence. Hell No. These moves were calculated & intentional on the part of David Samson & on behalf of United Airlines.
Now… the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey is investigating whether United employees made improper attempts to influence Samson at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. For bribery-related violations, prosecutors must show a quid pro quo — or specific intent to give or receive something of value in exchange for an official act. So, do we have the crime of Bribery? Yes…All day long. United gave David Samson a direct flight route so he could go to his weekend home in South Carolina (weekly) while he was making decisions regarding the projects United wanted him to support for them. Mmmmmhhh…I don’t even have to stretch my brain in order to see that this wasn’t right. It appears that the “Friendly Skies” became a little to friendly with David Samson.
The worse part about this is this…this man was doing this shit with our money…not his own. We, the public, did not get any monetary benefit from it… from United. No, we didn’t. United, along with their no good cohorts (American, Continental, Delta…), didn’t reduce our flight cost even though they were using our money to make themselves richer. Those beating, no good so & so’s are still over charging us for flights & all kinds of other stuff. Extra fee for this…extra fee for that.
So…what happens now??? Now, we need to wait & see what the Feds do regarding this. Will they do the right thing & charge these criminals with the crimes they have committed? To me it’s easy…Bribery = Crime. We will see…because a lot of times…it appears that the Feds do more protecting of “Rich Criminals” than prosecuting them.
