Georgia Couple…Jose Torres & Kayla Norton… Have You Heard These Names By Now???? O.k. Earlier this week, on Monday, Jose “Joe” Torres, & his significant other, Kayla Norton, were sentenced to time in prison by Superior Court Judge William McClain in Douglasville, Georgia. Torres was sentenced to 13 years in prison while Norton received 6 years of prison time.
While keeping my finger on the pulse…I have noticed some heated ass debates about the prison sentences. You see… Some are saying “they got what their hands called for”…while others are thinking “it’s too damn much time.” O.k. Let me tell you what went down that brought us to this present point in time.
It was July 25, 2015, in Douglas county, Georgia, where an 8-year old Black child was having an outdoor birthday party. The party attendees included Black folk & White folk. The District Attorney’s Office posted on it’s official facebook page that… “The convoy of trucks passed by the victim’s residence where the victims were grilling hot dogs and hamburgers while hosting a child’s birthday party featuring a bouncy castle, snow-cone machines, and a DJ.” O.k. This convoy of trucks was manned by Torres, Norton and 13 other people, who waved Confederate flags while they passed by the birthday party. Now… After this convoy of trucks passed by the birthday party (several times)…they decided to stop the trucks & get their asses out (parking on the property of the Black folk hosting the birthday party). Then, Torres & Norton, along with others, felt compelled to yell out racial slurs at the Black people at the party. Now, let’s be a little more specific… Fox 5 Atlanta reported on 2/27/17 that Assistant District Attorney, David Emadi, told Judge McClain during the sentencing hearing… “They repeatedly yelled death threats, saying they were going to [be] killing all the niggers. We’ll blow the heads off all the little bitches and the little niggers can get one, too.” And… They weren’t finished yet. No… No… No… Now…
Besides, calling out death threats to these Black folk… Besides, calling these Black folk “niggers” & “bitches”… NPR (National Public Radio) reported on 2/28/17, that according to other Defendants & witnesses, Kayla Norton, took a shotgun (owned by Jose Torres) out of Torres’ truck…loaded it & handed it to Jose Torres. Who did what with it??? Jose Torres, then…pointed the got damn shotgun at the Black folk…at the party. O.k… Here are some actual comments made about the sentencing that were posted on the facebook page of the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office:
“Did they actually attack anyone or just guilty of being racists? Not condoning their actions by any means but I’m not sure the punishment fit the crime here. If they attacked the kids or something, let them rot, but just being ignorant racists shouldn’t·” (February 27 at 4:44pm)
“Congratulations to the district attorney from up north. (I live in Pennsylvania.) Yes, the whole world watches these events. We applaud your thoughtful statements and the judge’s verdict.” (March 2, 2017)
“I will never understand how young white people who have never suffered from the atrocities of slavery, lynching, Jim Crow, discrimination and other issues be so racist? You have no reason, no cause. I know your parents must have passed down the poison, but you have no reason to be so evil and hateful. What have you experienced that would make you so ignorant and stupid instead of ashamed of that dark history in America. Think about it and Think for yourself!” (March 1, 2017)
“Sentences are excessive and politically motivated. The press is generating hatred for the defendants with gratuitous, repeated references to Dylann Roof and the Charleston shooting, which had nothing whatsoflippin’ever to do with this case.” (February 28, 2017)
O.k…
You already know how we flow. The real question is this… What is God’s perspective on this situation??? O.k. From the outset, let me say this… In having his perspective, God doesn’t give a damn about what you think…what I think…or what anybody else thinks. Why would He? HE’S GOD. He made us…we didn’t make Him. So… What other perspective matters…to Him…but His??? What wisdom could “specks of dust” have…that would rival His wisdom…even if He had a bad day??? NONE! He is only going to deal in truth. O.k. Let’s look at this from God’s perspective…dealing only in truth.
First of all, what Kayla Norton, Jose Torres & the other 13 people did was some BOLD ass shit. Think about it. First, you are going to roll-up on these Black folk who are minding their own damn business (having a birthday party)…waving Confederate flags. Then, you are going to drive by this residence…several times…waving your Confederate flags. Then, you are going to get your ass out of your trucks and trespass on these Black folk’s property & talk shit. You are going to yell at them… in the year of 2015…that they are “NIGGERS” & “BITCHES.” You are going to threaten to KILL them as you are calling them “NIGGERS” & “BITCHES.” You are going to load & point a got damn shotgun at them…as you are threatening to KILL them…as you are calling them “NIGGERS” & “BITCHES.” Alrighty now. Let’s keep going. Now…
What do you think was going through these Black folk minds as their lives were being threatened??? Do you think that they were ABSOLUTELY terrorized??? I CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE…what level of fear was pulsating through their hearts. Were they thinking that…any moment would be their last??? Especially, with this White man pointing a shotgun at them… as he’s yelling “NIGGER!”… “NIGGER!…I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!” Might they have been thinking…he meant it??? Now, let’s put this shit in a proper context. Remember… It had only been about a month earlier (June 17, 2015) when Dylann Roof, a self proclaimed white supremacist, carried his ass into the Mother Emanuel church in South Carolina & shot & killed 9 Black folk. So… All of this had to be fresh in the minds of these Black folk… in the neighboring state of Georgia. How could it not be??? It’s not every day that anyone, let alone 9 people, are gunned down in a church…in this country. And, let us not forget this… This was at an 8-year old child’s birthday party. Meaning? Meaning…that children also experienced this evil & hate being spewed out all over the place. Their was no filter to protect them. They received the same damn level of hate…just like the adults. (Right now…I’m just shaking my head) Alright…
Do you know what level of hate someone has to have in their heart to do this type of shit to another group of people??? And, remember… These White folk didn’t do this because these Black folk had done something bad to them…first. NO!…. NO!…. NO!… These White folk did not even know these Black folk. NO!…. NO!… NO!… These White folk did this evil ass shit SOLELY because these people were Black folk. That’s it…& that’s all. Yes. That’s all it took for these White folk to feel compelled to threaten the lives of these Black people. The skin color of these Black folk is all it took to motivate these White hearts to point a loaded shotgun at them. All Torres & Norton were missing were… KKK robes. Mmmmhhh. Now…
For their participation in these evil ass events on July 25, 2015, Kayla Norton & Jose Torres received the prison sentences I told you about earlier. Torres was convicted of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and violating a street-gang statute & he received 13 years of prison time. Norton was convicted of making terroristic threats and violating the gang law & she received 6 years of prison time. Too long??? God thinks not. Not at all. Why??? He doesn’t take kindly to people even threatening to kill His children. Let me explain. We know that one of the Ten commandments states… “Thou shall not kill.” (Exodus 20:13) God takes his commandments very seriously. And… He expects us to follow them…all of them. You might now be saying…but, Iris…Norton & Torres did not kill anyone. And, I would respond… That’s not how God sees it. Let me explain. Jesus tell us this… “15 All who hate a brother or sister[a] are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them.” (1 John 3:15) So, you see… For God, hating someone is the equivalent of killing them…in his sight. Jose Torres’ & Kayla Norton’s hate towards those Black folk was the equivalent of killing them…in the sight of God. And…
Jose Torres & Kayla Norton…did not just hate Black folk, while…minding their own business. NO! They acted upon their hatred by terrorizing & threatening to kill these Black folk. And… The Heavenly Father says He is NOT going to have it. Make no mistake about it. Their punishment of jail time…is their punishment for violating God’s commandment. And… God tells us that we all will reap what we sow. He says… ” 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) So… Their punishment of jail time…is also God letting them reap what they have sown. Meaning??? Meaning…you can bet your ass on it…that Jose Torres & Kayla Norton are terrified as hell…about being in jail. Yes. They are now incarcerated in jail with a bunch of Black folk…who know what the hell they are in for. And, they are terrified of retribution. God is letting Jose Torres & Kayla Norton feel the same type of terror that they put upon the Black folk…who they…literally “terrorized” in July 2015. And, God is going to allow them to experience being “terrorized” at a more elevated level. Lesson: “You don’t want to ever be in the path of God’s wrath.” So…
Lament if you must…but, lament about the folly & foolishness of man. Lament about how we humans put ourselves & our family in jeopardy when we fail to follow the will of God. And… Do not think for one moment that Jose Torres & Kayla Norton are receiving more than their just reward. Remember… God is a just God.
